STAFFROOM SECURELY CENTRALISES
BERGVLIET'S ADMINISTRATION NEEDS

Bergvliet’s mission is to develop well-rounded individuals who will thrive in the diversity of South African society because they have been equipped with the necessary resources to do so. With Staffroom, an Eiffel Corp product, they’re able to achieve this. Staffroom has let Bergvliet High School operate as a modern school by securely centralising its school’s administration needs.

THE CHALLENGE

Prior to Staffroom, an Eiffel Corp product, Bergvliet’s previous product was not nearly as user-friendly and didn’t get a lot of the basics correct. It can also be added that the previous package was split into different modules which caused a lot of hassle as you would need to exit one program and log in to another to access different aspects of student information. Staffroom doesn’t suffer from this problem as it is one integrated website vs lots of smaller individual programs.

THE SOLUTION

Staffroom’s features make communication easy – both internally and externally. With easy access to all you need to know about your school’s learners, parents, and staff in one secure space. And the tools to plan and share schedules, assess learners and effortlessly pull up detailed reports.

THE RESULTS

Staffroom has let Bergvliet High School operate as a modern school by securely centralising its school’s administration needs. It is a piece of software that has become a very necessary tool in the arsenal needed to keep a modern school running. They have appreciated the measured pace of introducing new features as a sign that Staffroom isn’t just rushing to cram in new features but that a lot of thought goes first into developing and testing new features before, they are deployed. This has also led to a very stable platform that rarely has technical issues anymore and as such can generally be relied upon in a school context.

The Bay Academy

The Bay Academy - Digikamva LMS

The Bay Academy prioritises the safety and security of its students. This means a reliable, stable and secure Learning Management System (LMS) is necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the learning environment. Eiffel Corp’s Digikamva LMS was best suitable to meet the needs of The Bay Academy.

THE CHALLENGE

North-West University

North-West University - Quality Course Review services

North-West University functions as a unitary, integrated and multi-campus institution, enabling equity, redress and globally competitive teaching and research in all their campuses.

Their focus, I.e., teaching-learning and research, is closely linked with community engagement and innovation across their faculties, assisting both distance and in-person students. Offering people a position in the world, NWU is recognised as a global higher education community. NWU allows for flexibility, putting their students at an advantage and enabling them to live up to their potential and getting them ready for their careers.

THE CHALLENGE

Two at-risk first-year modules were delivered using an asynchronous online learning modality. In other words, the course content was delivered mostly online with prerecorded lectures. There was a concern that the courses did not meet the required quality standards and the potential lack of lecturer continuity. The module quality also needed to be evaluated as per the QM rubric – it is essential that the outcomes and assessments are aligned with what is delivered in the course.

THE SOLUTION

Course reviews performed by Senior Instructional Designers and accredited QM practitioners. This involves a full evaluation of each module based on 8 review standards (QM and supporting frameworks) and related references. Eiffel Corp’s services team then provides a table of recommendations for each review component with practical guidance options, along with examples of how each course could better meet its intended outcomes and maximise first-year student success in various ways.

THE RESULTS

A detailed feedback report addressing the eight-course design aspects as per the QM rubric. Suggested actions and recommendations per area are given to increase the quality of the course and delivery thereof. Alignment of course delivery, assessment and outcomes for the modules in order to ensure student success.

WSU Works to Get Online Content Right

Walter Sisulu University – Course Development Toolkit

Walter Sisulu prides itself on being an institution that promotes and improves access to higher education. WSU’s focus is on providing quality education, and technological and career-orientated programmes. These bring forth necessary skills for development in rural and urban areas, with a special emphasis on entrepreneurship.

THE CHALLENGE

In order to create and deliver effective online learning materials, it is important to carefully balance fundamental concepts with engaging learning activities and a carefully thought-out progression that inspires learners to stay engaged and work together. It is necessary for instructional designers and developers to produce context-rich, well-communicated, and consistent learning experiences while developing such online courses.

THE SOLUTION

An on-site, two-day program has been developed to assist WSU in creating a set of technical online learning standards for their virtual learning environment (VLE) that will serve as guidelines for online course designers, lecturers, and new faculty on issues like the use of color, fonts, naming conventions, course links, and modules.

THE RESULTS

The end result was a partner-specific manual that all of their VLE course developers, but especially new faculty, can refer to when creating their own online programs and courses (available three weeks after onsite delivery). This Course Development Toolkit compiles a number of significant designs and quality standards into a handy compilation.

eLearning Course for Induction of Staff at UCT

UCT Staff Orientation – eLearning Content Development

With their culture of academic excellence, the University of Cape Town is currently recognised as a top-rated institution in Africa and one of the top-rated institutions globally. They achieve this by having built an extraordinarily talented community and encouraging one another to work hard. UCT encourages transformation and hard work to maintain the sustainability of their institution and ensures quality in all they do. Their focus is on becoming a research-incentive African university that is inclusive and solves challenges of our time, while also being committed to help change this world for the better

THE CHALLENGE

The University of Cape Town needed to conduct an induction programme for new staff members. The course had to be available as and when required in a hybrid model ensuring that staff could access the course at any given time and stay relevant and updated with the latest information.

THE SOLUTION

Content for the course is built for variable delivery methods, including fully online and blended learning. The numerous staff induction course components were created with a mix of brand-new and pre-existing digital course materials that facilitated participant engagement and knowledge transfer. The course also serves as a collection of references for UCT employees to consult again for clarification on information on highlighted regulations and policies as needed.

THE RESULTS

Given the nature of changing policies, leadership positions, functions, and information inside a complex and evolving university, the digital course remains relevant and updated on a continuous basis, eliminating the need for course administrators to update it on a frequent and manual basis. The course(s)’ continuous usefulness maximizes the return on the investment.

THE SOLUTION

A comprehensive digital learning solution with local support & insights; relevant implementation, and training support; and a cloud-based LMS that is fit-for-purpose and flexible.
